Kathryn Sullivan has taught at STEPS on Broadway for 15 years. In addition to her ballet classes, Kathryn teaches pointe classes that focus on learning the basics of pointe technique. She is also on faculty at Barnard College and the Ballet Hispanico pre-professional program. Her choreography has been presented at Joyce Soho, Cunningham Studio, New Choreographers on Pointe, commissioned by Barnard College and seen in numerous STEPS BEYOND showcases. She was a co-director/ choreographer with InnerLandscapes, a dance theater choreography collective, for seven seasons.

She performed with the Boston Ballet, Les Grands Ballet Canadians, and Les Ballet de Nancy. She has taught at Broadway Dance Center, Ballet Hispanico, La Guardia High School of Performing Arts, New Jersey Ballet, and has done master classes and judging for Dance Masters of America, Professional Dance Teachers Association, and National Association of Dance and Affiliated Arts. For eight years she worked for the New York City Ballet’s Education Department, designing and presenting ballet workshops in public schools.

Ms. Sullivan has collaborated with STEPS pianists Flora Arbitman, Nick Levinovsky, Eugenia Lev and Doug Schultz on music CD’s for ballet class, produced by Roper Records; and has made a video of ballet routines, “Ballet with Style”, released by Bob Rizzo (RIZ BIZ).

Kathryn has written numerous articles for Dance Teacher, Dancer, Dance Spirit, and Pointe magazines, relating to pointe technique, leg shapes, teaching approaches, and ballet choreography.

She has become known as expert in the field of pointe work training, appearing in Pointe Book (1st edition), Ballet Companion, and having made an instructional pointe training video through Hoctor Dance. Currently, she is a contributor to the “Ask a Teacher” column on the Gaynor Minden website.
